AFI Top 100: No. 21 Chinatown

Two of the favorites of the AFI Top 100, Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson, headline No. 21 Chinatown. With these two at the forefront, it is no wonder Chinatown is so high in the AFI rankings. It is deservedly up there. The film was well acted with a dark and twisted storyline that stemmed from actual events.

Unsurprisingly, both Dunaway and Nicholson were stellar in their dark and mysterious roles. I had issues with some of the domestic violence at the end of the film… I understand you can call that a “bad cop” routine but it bothered me to see a woman being slapped around like that… Aside from that, the mystery around who killed Mulwray was captivating. It was truly a great film and one I would recommend watching.

Next Up: It’s A Wonderful Life.

  1. Absolutely terrific movie! Faye Dunaway can really handle some major slaps to the face. They looked real. I was impressed.

  2. I agree! It was uncomfortable to watch, which I guess was the entire point. Great film.
